The New Face of Transportation TV - Arriving Monday on the Small Screen

On Monday, June 8, 2009 Transportation TV viewers are going to see a whole new look. The web site has a brand new color scheme and added features to make it more interactive and user friendly.

"It's a makeover that Oprah Winfrey could be proud of," said Transportation TV manager Tony Dorsey. A former TV news reporter, Dorsey said, "the website is meant to be a place where transportation users, decision makers, and the reporters who cover them can find something worth their time and attention."

Transportation TV has five channels dedicated to news, insights and analysis from transportation heavyweights like U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Congressmen Jim Oberstar (D-MN) and John Mica (R-FL.), and videos from state DOTs about programs being implemented on the frontlines.

Since its February 2009 launch, Transportation TV videos have been viewed more than 26,500 times. "That says a lot about T-TV's success," said AASHTO's web business manager David Dubov. "The goal now is to keep improving the site so viewers keep coming back."

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has tied Transportation TV to its national marketing campaign called "Are we there yet? We can be", which is designed to frame the debate around authorization of the next surface transportation bill.

"We are using Transportation TV to broaden our scope," said Sunny Schust, AASHTO director of communications. "Transportation TV gives us the ability not only to tell people why transportation is important, but to show them exactly what we're talking about."

On Monday, Transportation TV will also launch a new feature called "Voices of Transportation." In the first installment, Brian Deery, Senior Director of Highway and Transportation Division of the Associated General Contractors of America, discusses the pressing need to address the future of transportation through new federal legislation.

Meanwhile, Roads and Bridges magazine is making it easier for its on-line readers to find Transportation TV. Look for the link on the publication's home page or go to transportationtv.org.
