Tracy Earns SAE International's SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award


WARRENDALE, Pa -- Dr. John Tracy, Boeing Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Engineering, Operations & Technology, was honored with the 2008 SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award during the SAE 2009 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held last fall in Seattle, Wash.

Established in 1992, the SAE Aerospace Engineering Leadership Award honors an individual at the corporate official level for outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace engineering through his/her leadership skills. It recognizes an individual who has applied their leadership skills in aerospace engineering to make contributions leading to great positive impact on the aerospace community. Recognition may be for a singular accomplishment or lifetime achievement.

In his position with Boeing, Tracy oversees the development and implementation of the enterprise technology investment strategy and provides strategic direction to several functions and business organizations comprising more than 100,000 employees. These include the Engineering, Operations, and Supplier Management functions, and also the Information Technology, Enterprise Technology Strategy, Research & Technology, Test & Evaluation, Intellectual Property Management, and Environment, Health & Safety organizations.

Prior to his current position, Tracy held several executive level positions of increasing responsibility, from leading the development of advanced technologies for military and commercial aircraft to leading the 32,000 person Engineering function for Boeing's defense business. He joined Boeing as a stress analyst in 1981 and has authored 34 publications in the areas of composite structural mechanics, launch vehicle structures, smart structures, and aging aircraft.

Tracy is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Royal Aeronautical Society. He received his PhD in Engineering from the University of California-Irvine, and an MS and BS in Physics, respectively, from California State University-Los Angeles and California State University-Dominguez Hills.
