Tompkins Associates' Latest Podcast Series Explores Procurement Process Across Supply Chain

RALEIGH, NC, December 9, 2010 - Every company does it, but they don't always like to talk about it.

Procurement is the vital element that runs throughout all mega supply chain processes - Plan, Buy, Make, Move, Store, and Sell - according to the new Global Supply Chain Podcast series hosted by Tompkins Associates.

"With these podcasts, we dig deep into the theories behind procurement," says Jim Tompkins, President and CEO of Tompkins Associates. "Procurement enhances the overall value of the supply chain, and in turn, it has a major impact on increasing shareholder and investor value."

This four-part podcast series provides organizations with an in-depth overview of how to optimize their procurement components and concludes with an executive perspective on the topic. Three of the podcasts are currently available, and the final episode airs December 21.

The podcasts note that, within the mega processes, there are four basic functions of procurement: strategic sourcing; purchasing; procuring IT; and supplier relationship management (SRM). All four have distinct roles that require input from the others. Together, these functions support a solid enterprise business strategy, as well as create a competitive advantage.
