Chicago, Illinois, November 15, 2010 - During the recent International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago (IMTS), winners of the Innovation Of The America's cutting contest were announced at a dinner reception. Ray Clark of S. Himmelstein and Company of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, was recognized as one of the metalworking industry's most talented machinists. He received a Grand Prize award in the General/Tool/Toy Group for his accomplishment with the CNC machining of a difficult middle spoke section of a titanium shaft (.020" thick with ±.001" tolerance and cycle time of 3.25 hours). Ray has been employed by S. Himmelstein and Company for 33 years.

This critical product component is used by S. Himmelstein and Company, which manufactures high precision sensors and data acquisition systems. These products are used worldwide in the manufacturing process for quality control/testing in the production of engines, transmissions, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, electric motors, fans, blowers, turbines, etc.

Established in 1960, the company designs, manufactures and tests these products in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, where complete machine shop, surface mount, test and engineering facilities permit control of the entire manufacturing process.

The contest is sponsored annually by the DMG/Mori Seiki Company USA and is judged by five professionals from reputable industry organizations and universities, led by Professor Kazuo Yamazaki of the University of California, Davis. The entries represent diverse machining techniques on a range of materials that were submitted from across the Americas.
