ThomasNet® North American Manufacturing Scholarship Winners Dream Big

High School Applicants Say They Can’t Imagine a Better Career than Manufacturing

New York, NY — The first recipients of ThomasNet’s North American Manufacturing scholarships are invigorated by what a career in manufacturing can do for them. Individual students want to advance the use of clean energy, replace soldiers with drones, improve medical procedures, and find other ways to make a major impact. These students see manufacturing as the pathway to realizing their biggest dreams.

Today, ThomasNet announced the names of thirty promising high school graduates who are on the way to achieving their goals. They have been chosen from hundreds of applicants to win $1,000 scholarships as they prepare for manufacturing careers. All of them will be entering two- and four-year colleges and universities, as well as vocational-technical schools, to study engineering, supply chain management/business operations, or a skilled trade.

“We are delighted to welcome these talented individuals to the manufacturing industry. Each of them blends excitement about a particular subject with optimism, inspiration, and hard work. By helping them to further their studies, we are putting our future in excellent hands,” said Eileen Markowitz, President, ThomasNet.

“My interest is in studying welding technology, and I would like to participate in an underwater welding program. It would be extremely rewarding to gain the knowledge and experience to become a supervisor or educator in the welding field,” said Justin Stumbo from Easley, SC, who plans to study at Tri-County Technical College in South Carolina.

ThomasNet launched the scholarship program to capture the attention of students like Justin Stumbo, and encourage their early interest in manufacturing.

For the past two years, the company’s Industry Market Barometer® (IMB) survey of manufacturers has shown an urgent need to bring new talent into this industry. The research reinforces that at a time of growth for the sector, companies can’t recruit people fast enough.

ThomasNet has harnessed the interest of manufacturers, educators, and other industry partners concerned about this issue—all of whom spread the word on the scholarship program.

“The success of our grassroots effort shows that together, we can make a powerful contribution to the industry that supports and rewards us every day,” added Ms. Markowitz.
