Another benefit of Thin Clients? It seems that every month a new study is released showing the green benefits of the Thin Client model. Even if you don't need a 'green' solution, it's hard to argue with 25 percent energy savings. That just makes good business sense.

Here are a few of the reasons you will quickly find to make Thin Clients a major part of any green strategy:

- Lower energy requirements of Thin Clients - Much longer lifespan of Thin Client hardware - Less environmental conditioning needed

Lower Energy Requirements

Replace a PC with a Thin Client and you can save as much as 80 percent in energy used for that station. Convert all your PCs to Thin Clients and, even including the Terminal Servers and network hardware you will realize savings of at least 25 percent. ThinManager Ready Thin Clients consume anywhere from 15 to 50 watts, which is much less than a typical PC that runs on the order of 150 to 350 watts

Longer Lifespan and less environmental impact

You are lucky to get three to four years from a PC or a laptop. Not only is there an inevitable failure of the hardware, but every year a huge number of PCs are made obsolete because they can no longer run the latest Microsoft operating systems and applications.

The average lifecycle of a Thin Client is pegged at 7 years, and we have customers who are still running the same Thin Clients they purchased back in 1999. This is because there are less parts to fail with a Thin Client, and because all the Thin Client hardware is doing is displaying the application that is running on the Terminal Server. Customers have upgraded their server operating system several times, but this has not necessitated an upgrade in the Thin Client hardware. ACP is committed to supporting all ThinManager Ready clients with every software release.

When you do replace the Thin Clint, the very nature of the device means it has much fewer parts to be recycled or destroyed. Think of the size of a PC - the power supply alone is larger than a typical Thin Client!

Less environmental conditioning needed

Because of the reduced hardware and power requirements, Thin Clients do not need the comfortable environment required by most PCs. This means they can be added in manufacturing areas without having to worry about keeping the operating temperature within a certain zone, allowing you to save money on heating or cooling costs. Thin Clients also will not heat up the inside of enclosures the way that PCs can, so you don't have to worry about adding fans that consume power and add other problems.

So if you want to save money and benefit the environment at the same time you need to take a good look at ACP's Thin Client technology. I promise you will be happy with what you find - and the earth will thank you also!
