Thermo Fisher Scientific Brings Product Quality Systems to Latin America

Thermo Scientific Products Offer X-ray, Metal Detection and Checkweigher
Options to Address Product Contamination and Weighing Issues

MINNEAPOLIS - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced the availability of several systems that can aid Latin American food processors in achieving product quality goals. The company will be exhibiting its latest equipment within booth 1709 at Expo Pack Mexico, June 26-29, in Mexico City.

According research from the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute, key trends in the Mexican market include custom packaging and private label goods, sustainability and new business practices. Retailers are also looking for products that address the country's evolving dietary habits. To help support the marketplace's growing manufacturing requirements, Thermo Fisher will be demonstrating two X-ray systems plus a metal detector and checkweigher.

The Thermo Scientific EZx is ideal for those operations seeking an entry-level X-ray system. The unit provides an optimum solution for locating foreign objects commonly found in packaged food production environments. Utilizing proprietary X-ray technology, the system can find virtually any substance that is denser or sharper than the object within which it is contained. This defect coverage is superior to traditional magnetic metal detectors and can help overcome many of the product-effect challenges of those devices.

The Thermo Scientific Xpert inspection system targets customers with mid-level inspection demands who can benefit from missing-product or deformation X-ray analysis as well as foreign object detection. The Xpert line offers high performance via a robust platform that can immediately identify problems so users can take fast corrective action.

The Thermo Scientific APEX 500 high-performance metal detector raises the industry standard for performance, stability and reliability. It incorporates a patented multi-coil design to make the magnetic flux, which occurs in the aperture, more consistent. The end result is improved signal levels that lead to higher detection capability. Additionally, the Apex 500 line offers new shielding techniques to reduce product effect and costly waste caused by false rejects.

The Thermo Scientific VersaWeigh can handle a broad range of checkweighing requirements, from small cartons to industrial-sized bags. Its versatility makes it ideal for operations that run multiple package sizes and configurations. The VersaWeigh offers a high level of accuracy at faster speeds, and it is easy-to-use and sanitize.

"Thermo Fisher is dedicated to helping the Latin American market achieve its product inspection and quality objectives. These four systems are a small representation of our capability, and we look forward to supporting these growing economies with our leading-edge technology," said Edgar Osorio, sales manager, Mexico and Central America, Thermo Fisher.
