Las Vegas, NV, NAB 2011, Booth C8818 - The Tiffen Company, a Long Island-based leading manufacturer and supplier of award winning accessories for the still imaging, motion picture and broadcast markets, announced today a new line of Tiffen HV Filter Kits to their comprehensive line of optical filters.
Working in collaboration with Shane Hurlbut, ASC, Tiffen created a series of Filter Kits for the Canon 5D and other HDSLR video cameras. Hurlbut used eight Canon 5D's in a line to create a stunning action camera array, when filming the movie "Medieval" back in January 2010.
Hurlbut used Neutral Density filters to achieve the same f-stop on the 8 side-by-side cameras. The color on every camera was different. He proceeded to pull the filtration off and stopped down the exposure; the cameras colors matched. It turned out that the problem was the inconsistent optical quality of various brands of ND filters. Hurlbut called The Tiffen Company to discuss his problem and to determine if they could come up with a solution - create a set of filters that would work with the Canon 5D color space. Tiffen proceeded and created a new set of Neutral Density filters that will deliver the cleanest image for post color grading. The Tiffen Water White Neutral Density filters solved the problem and are easy to use. In collaboration with Tiffen, Hurlbut designed 4 HV Kits that will meet the needs of both the novice and professional. The Tiffen HV Kits come in two sizes 77mm and 4 x 5.65 and are engineered to give 7 stops worth of ND in order to shoot the Canon 5D, and other HDSLR video cameras, in the blazing sun at F 2.0. The Indie Plus HV Kit: 77mm WW Neutral Density 1.5, 1.8 and 2.1, plus a WW Ultra Circular Polarizer, with a 4 filter capacity padded belt loop style pouch for easy access.
The Pro HV Kit: 4 x 5.65 WW Neutral Density .3, .6, .9, 1.2 with a 6 filter capacity padded belt loop style pouch with pull tabs that slide each filter right up into your hands for quick filter changes.
The Pro Plus HV Kit: 4 x 5.65 WW Neutral Density 1.5, 1.8 and 2.1 , plus a 138mm WW Ultra Circular Polarizer, with a 6 filter capacity padded belt loop style pouch with pull tabs that slide each filter right up into your hands for quick filter changes.
These kits will be available April 1, 2011 at Tiffen authorized retailers.
