At NPE 2012, battenfeld-cincinnati USA (formerly American Maplan Corporation) will showcase its focus on innovative, energy-efficient and customized extrusion solutions in West Hall A, booth number 911. Apart from single and twin screw extruders, battenfeld-cincinnati offers complete extrusion systems, including pipe tooling and downstream equipment for pipe and profile applications.
Beginning in 2010, battenfeld-cincinnati has launched three extruder series to cover a comprehensive range of pipe and profile applications.
The solEX series of 40D single screw extruders is perfect for the high performance processing of PE-HD and PP pipe. The machines come in five sizes with screw diameters from 45 to 120 mm. Their outstanding feature is the enormous output with low melt temperature. solEX extruders are equipped with a particularly powerful, highly efficient drive train and an optimized processing unit that enable a reduction of energy consumption by about 15%. Extruders from the new series reach such high throughput levels together with excellent melt homogeneity that, compared to conventional 30 D extruders, the next smaller diameter machine model can be used to reach the same performance.
The second extruder series to premiere was the twinEX series of parallel twin screw extruders which consist of four machines in sizes from 78 to 135 mm. The extruders require approximately 15% less specific energy input with a simultaneous increase in output compared to other counter rotating twin screw extruders. The machines have already proven themselves repeatedly in the field.
In 2011, battenfeld-cincinnati added the uniEX multi-purpose single screw extruders for manufacturing both pipe and profiles to its portfolio. Four sizes from 35 to 75 mm cover outputs from 50 to 500 kg/h. The uniEX can process all known thermoplastic materials from PVC to polyolefins, as well as thermoplastic elastomers and engineering plastics. The processing highlight of the uniEX series is the consistently high specific throughput at every screw speed. An additional benefit is the extremely wide process window, as well as the option of processing a great variety of materials thanks to specialized screw geometries.
Innovative, customer-specific solutions for large diameter pipe extrusion
battenfeld-cincinnati's Infrastructure Division has successfully placed a variety of large diameter lines in the field. Recently, the highlights were lines for pipe with diameters of 2,000 and 2,500 mm. Among these was an order from Pipelife Norge, Stathelle/Norway last year for a 2,500 mm line where battenfeld-cincinnati supplied extruder, pipe head and customer-specific haul-off. The line components were produced in a very short time despite their enormous size and technical complexity and have already been delivered to the customer.
Complete Extrusion Line Energy Savings
Energy costs account for 3 to 5 percent of total production costs. Therefore, battenfeld-cincinnati has optimized its extruder series with AC drives and specially designed screw geometries and innovative heating/cooling solutions. To enhance this optimization, battenfeld-cincinnati focuses on the complete line.
Downstream components are improved constantly and the Green Pipe downstream concept pioneered by battenfeld-cincinnati offers significant improvements in energy efficiency in cooling pipe. In addition, the company also offers an energy monitoring system that compiles detailed energy distribution charts for the whole line. Processors can then make reliable comparisons and develop practical energy saving measures.
