The Life Of A Forklift Tire

The MHEDA Journal analyzes the distribution market for lift truck tires.

Dewitt, NY - The Fourth Quarter 2010 issue of The MHEDA Journal, the leading online magazine for the forklift, storage and handling, and general material handling equipment industries, focuses on an often-overlooked aspect of the material handling industry - forklift tires. Where do the come from? How do they get there? What happens to them after they're used up? The MHEDA Journal answered all these questions in its October 2010 article, "The Life Of A Tire."

The article begins with a look at the distribution for forklift tires. "The distribution channel for forklift tires is not as straightforward as it may seem to the uninitiated," the article states. It goes on to quote one forklift manufacturer who describes the market as a "spider web." In the manufacturer's words, "Not only am I selling to equipment distributors and tire dealers, I am also selling to the distributor's OEM, who also sells to the distributor. So I sometimes find myself competing against my own products as well as those of other manufacturers."

It makes for a convoluted system that is further complicated by national accounts, wholesalers, retailers and distributors. In "The Life Of A Tire," The MHEDA Journal aims to explain and outline each distribution channel to make it more clear for readers. The article also describes what happens to a tire after its useful life is over and how end-users and distributors can keep used tires out of landfills.
