Tellabs Showcases Small Cell, Packet Optical, Optical LAN and SDN Solutions at Futurecom 2013

Launching Tellabs 8602 Smart Router for small cell backhaul at Booth E10

SAO PAULO - How can mobile operators best manage the operating expense challenges of small cell networks? The operating expenses of small cells may exceed capital expenses, which makes a tough challenge for operators.

Tellabs offers new insights into making backhaul of small cells easier, at Futurecom Booth E10. The company will showcase its new Tellabs 8602 Smart Router designed for small cell backhaul. It's designed for plug-and-play installation, with built-in autodiscovery, so the Tellabs 8000 Intelligent Network Manager can easily manage hundreds or thousands of small cells. That capability means faster deployment and faster time to revenue.

Tellabs' exhibit at Futurecom 2013 is at Booth E10 at the Riocentro Exhibition Center in Rio de Janeiro, October 21-24.

Enabling IP/MPLS for small cell backhauling

The new Tellabs 8602 Smart Router for Latin America and Caribbean operators enables them to more easily and cost-efficiently deal with growing capacity demands on today's networks. The Tellabs 8602 router enables the use of IP/MPLS as a unified technology down to small cell sites. This enables superior control of the network, maximizes capacity utilization and simplifies network operations.

The Tellabs 8602 router is designed for network sites that require a compact-sized, low-power-consumption device. These new routers can be deployed in a dense topology and in the most demanding outdoor installations.

Integrating packet optical and Carrier Ethernet

As mobile data traffic grows around the world, more and more traffic is backhauled on optical links. Tellabs will highlight mobile backhaul and metro networks solutions based on its packet optical and Carrier Ethernet platforms. Tellabs integrates optical and Carrier Ethernet services with the CE 2.0 certified Tellabs 7100 Nano Optical Transport System and Tellabs 7300 Carrier Ethernet switches and demarcation devices. This approach makes it easy for customers to efficiently manage growing network requirements and enable new business services.

Introducing Optical LAN

New in the Latin American market, Tellabs Optical LAN replaces conventional copper-based LANs with a purpose-built, high-capacity, high-performance LAN. It simplifies network infrastructure and operations, getting the job done with fewer network elements by using passive optical networking technology. Tellabs Optical LAN can save up to 70% in the cost of ownership, lower energy consumption by up to 80% and reduce space needs by up to 90%.

Tellabs Optical LAN converges all of a building's or campus' wired and wireless communications networks into one  ?  handling Wi-Fi, data, voice, CATV, security, building automation networks and more. Optical LAN eliminates the need for future re-cabling and tightens security.

Incorporating SDN functionality

New research by Strategy Analytics finds that SDN can save mobile operators more than $4 billion in capital expenses for their backhaul networks by the year 2017. Tellabs will discuss plans to incorporate SDN functionality into the Tellabs 8000 Intelligent Network Manager, Tellabs 8600 Smart Router and Tellabs 7100 Optical Transport System, in early 2014.
