Tellabs® 8800 Multiservice Router Earns Rural Utilities Service Acceptance

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Aug. 28 - The Tellabs® 8800 Multiservice Router (MSR) series recently joined the growing list of Tellabs products accepted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service (RUS). Now independent telcos can build out their networks to meet increasing user demands for advanced video and Internet services. And they can finance these builds with low-interest government loans for proven Tellabs solutions.

A Bridge to the Future

The Tellabs 8800 MSR is a next-generation router that integrates carrier Ethernet, IP/MPLS, ATM, SONET and TDM technology on a single, unique platform. This solution embeds intelligence into the network, enabling providers to leverage their current infrastructures to offer advanced video, voice and Internet. It also provides seamless integration to existing Tellabs access equipment that is already deployed in many networks. Rural communities get the latest communications services and independent providers can obtain new sources of revenue.

"For years, independent service providers have used Tellabs access products to meet the growing needs of their customers," said Carl DeWilde, Tellabs executive vice president, global sales and strategy. "With RUS acceptance of the Tellabs 8800 MSR, independent telcos can use government loans to deploy Tellabs broadband solutions, bringing the economic and public service benefits of broadband services to rural communities."

Where Others Don't Go

In addition to the Tellabs 8800 MSR, the Tellabs® 1000 Multiservice Access Series, the Tellabs® 1100 Multiservice Access Series and the Tellabs 1600 family of Optical Network Terminals have RUS acceptance. Used in concert, these products provide complete communications solutions from the video head end all the way to the home. In the past few months, the company has announced contracts with providers to bring advanced broadband services to rural customers in Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, Maryland, Kansas and North Carolina.

The Tellabs 8800 MSR is an integral part of the Tellabs® DynamicHomeSM solution. For more about how Tellabs solutions power the most advanced and reliable networks visit: http://www.tellabs.com/solutions/.
