Press release date: March 14, 2006

KORTRIJK, Belgium and ATLANTA, March 14--

Following its selection as the exclusive supplier of personal video recorders (PVR) for Telewest in the UK, Scientific Atlanta, a Cisco company, announced today that Telewest has fully launched its TVDrive service using the Explorer® 8300DVB(TM) HD PVR.

The Scientific Atlanta® HD PVR is the first HDTV-capable cable receiver in the UK, supporting Telewest's launch of HDTV content on its Teleport video-on-demand service, which provides access to a huge library of TV and movie content via the remote control. In addition to being the first PVR in the UK, the Explorer 8300DVB HD PVR is Scientific Atlanta's first-ever PVR with three video tuners, giving Telewest's customers unprecedented flexibility and control to record two programs whilst watching a third. The box also incorporates a DOCSIS® tuner for high-speed data access.

"Our TVDrive combines high definition programming with PVR capabilities to provide our customers with the ultimate TV experience," said Eric Tveter, president and chief operating officer at Telewest. "The exceptional teamwork between Telewest and Scientific Atlanta Europe enabled us to meet an aggressive launch plan."

Telewest is employing best-in-class software and security components from a team of leading DTV technology companies. The PVR user application has been designed and developed by Telewest and runs on middleware provided by SeaChange (formerly Liberate Technologies). Conditional access security is provided by Nagravision. Overall client software integration services have been provided by Scientific Atlanta Europe.

"In every system where we have helped launch HD PVR service, it has become a 'must have' for consumers for home entertainment," said George Stromeyer, vice president and managing director at Scientific Atlanta Europe. "HD PVR is also becoming a 'must have' for cable operators as competition intensifies from satellite and other service providers, and operators seek additional revenue opportunities."
