Telecom and Sierra Wireless Deliver New USB and ExpressCard Mobile Broadband Modems

AUCKLAND, New Zealand and VANCOUVER, July 6 / / -- Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR)(NASDAQ:-)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:SW) and Telecom New Zealand today announced the availability of AirCard 595U USB modem and the AirCard 597E ExpressCard, offering customers an alternative to PCMCIA cards for using Telecom Mobile Broadband to access their email, the Internet, and online applications while on the move. Both the AirCard 595U USB modem and the AirCard 597E ExpressCard are available from Telecom retail stores and online at www.telecom.co.nz.

The stylish and compact AirCard 595U USB modem can be plugged directly into a USB port in either a notebook or a desktop computer, or can be connected through an included docking cradle. This offers an alternative for customers without PCMCIA card slots and allows them to move a single wireless data service between computers.

"The AirCard 595U USB modem is a flexible mobile broadband solution for customers looking for the widest possible compatibility in their connection device," said Martin Butler, GM of Business Products for Telecom New Zealand. "It is compatible with virtually any computer, is easy to use, and offers the same reliable performance and speed as the AirCard 595 PC card, so our customers can work productively from wherever they need to."

In addition to its more compact form factor, the AirCard 597E ExpressCard offers several advanced features, including a high-performance integrated antenna to improve signal capture and data speed, and the latest MSM6800A 65-nanometer (65nm) chipset from QUALCOMM, with improved power-efficiency and wireless data performance.

AirCard 595U USB Modem o Offers average download speeds of 800 kbps and average upload speeds of 300 kbps, operating over Mobile Broadband rev a. o Seamlessly connects to Mobile Broadband Rev 0 and Telecom's nationwide mobile data network when outside rev a coverage. Rev a is currently available in every major town and city. The entire Telecom network, which covers over 70% of the places New Zealanders work and live, will be upgraded by the end of the year. o Includes an internal battery to ensure optimal performance.

AirCard 597E ExpressCard o Transfers data wirelessly at average speeds of 800 kbps download and 300 kbps upload, using the latest EV-DO Rev a technology.
