Aremco Products, Inc. has introduced a new Technical Bulletin A9 that describes its entire family of thermoplastic, temporary mounting adhesives referred to by the trade name, Crystalbondtm. These products are now offered by Aremco to mount ceramics, semiconductors, and metal and optical crystals for dicing, grinding and polishing operations.
Four products are included in the Crystalbondtm family of temporary mounting adhesives. These products demonstrate a wide range of properties with respect to flow point, adhesive strength and solubility. Features of each product are provided below:
o 509 Flows at 250°F, excellent adhesion to metal, glass, and ceramic, soluble in acetone. o 555 Flows at 120°F, good adhesion to glass and ceramic, soluble in hot water. o 555-HMP Flows at 150°F, good adhesion to glass and ceramic, soluble in hot water. o 590 Flows at 300°F, excellent adhesion under high vibration to metal, glass and ceramic, soluble in methanol. Crystalbondtm adhesives are easily applied by preheating a mounting plate, melting and spreading the adhesive in a uniform layer, then positioning the part over the adhesive, allowing the entire assembly to cool. After processing, the Crystalbondtm is easily dissolved leaving no film or residue.
Crystalbondtm adhesives can be used in a wide variety of machining applications including:
o Machining advanced, dense ceramics. o Lapping and polishing optical components. o Mounting cross-sections for electron microscopy. o Dicing ceramic substrates used in microelectronics. o Dicing silicon semiconductors and single crystals. o Dicing ferrites and liquid crystal displays. o Backfilling components for mechanical support.
