Frank and Regina Vargo Honored At Annual "Trade Prom"

WASHINGTON, D.C., July 24, 2009 - National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Vice President for International Economic Affairs Frank Vargo and his wife, Regina Vargo, Senior Director for the international law firm of Greenberg Traurig, were honored with the prestigious Lighthouse Award by the Washington International Trade Association (WITA) in recognition of their contributions to advancing the cause and understanding of international trade.

Both Frank and Regina are well known in Washington for their expertise and experience in global commerce issues. Prior to joining the NAM, Frank Vargo served for three decades at the U.S. Department of Commerce in a variety of positions, including deputy assistant secretary for Europe, deputy assistant secretary for Asia and deputy assistant secretary for World Trade Organization affairs and trade compliance. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Regina Vargo served as Assistant United States Trade Representative for the Americas, where she was chief negotiator for the CAFTA, Chile, Colombia, Panama and Peru trade agreements.

This is the second annual WITA Lighthouse Award. Last year's award went to Robert "Judge" Morris, president of Global Business Dialogue, Inc. Morris had previously worked for the NAM as senior director of international trade policy.

More than 500 people attended the awards dinner celebration at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington, an event that has become known as "The Trade Prom." Former Rep. Jim Kolbe served as master of ceremonies. Also in attendance were recipients of the 2009 WITA Distinguished Service Award, Reps. Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Joe Crowley (D-NY).

The National Association of Manufacturers is the nation's largest industrial trade association, representing small and large manufacturers in every industrial sector and in all 50 states. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the NAM has 11 additional offices across the country. Visit the NAM's web site at www.nam.org for more information about manufacturing and the economy.
