Press release date: March 14, 2011

Because transporters and third-party logistics providers constantly seek to reduce handling times, materials handling specialist Industrial Conveying (Aust) Pty Ltd is designing and fitting customised, automated floors on truck trailers.

The company's range of adaptable trailer floor technologies caters to all logistics requirements and a key ingredient of these solutions is the company's ability to engineer solutions to specific needs.

Managing director of the company, Mr Don Erskine, comments that companies running truck fleets now recognised how these vehicles are very much like a travelling warehouse, so efficiency in stock transfer is paramount.

"Simplified and expedient loading and offloading is the key to heightening productivity when using trucks, so what we largely have done is taken the heavy dependence on forklifts out of the equation and make truck floors the focus of product movements," said Erskine.

"Not only is it a faster and more efficient way of handling stock, it also increases occupational health and safety level because all movements are at ground level and limited lifting is involved.

"This is a relatively new field of logistics and materials handling and with our specialised engineers we are able to make a critical appraisal to design and install an optimised solution to meet specific requirements."

ICA's roller floor systems allow for a roll on/off ability of product; integrated with an air raise and lower function it allows the transfer of product into and from trailers with minimal effort.

The ability to lower the rollers allows the product to be transported with full contact between the product and the trailer floor for constant safety.

Included in this stable of truck trailer technologies are chain floor systems. With or without air activation, chain floor systems allow for a positively driven transfer of product to and from a trailer. They reduce the associated labour and forklift handling time.
