Press release date: October 22, 2009

FARMINGTON, Conn., October 22, 2009 - TRUMPF's lineup at Solar Power International 2009, October 27-29 in Anaheim, Booth 1165, will include the TruMicro Series 5000, TruMicro Series 7000 and the TruMark 3230.

The new, compact TruMicro Series 5000 laser is used for scribing and cutting solar cells. It combines ultra-short pulses with a maximum pulse energy of up to 250 micro joules and a repetition rate up to 1MHz. These lasers are available as IR (1030 nm), green (515nm) and UV (343 nm). Thanks to pulse duration of less than 10 ps, structuring of molybdenum, processing of photoactive material and patterning can be performed without a beam quality of better than M2 < 1.3. The high average power of up to 50 watts enables parallel operation of several processing heads with processing speeds far above of 1 m/s.

The TruMicro Series 7000, lasers for edge deletion, provides the high processing speed that is a must in industrial implementation. This short pulse laser has up to 750 watts at 1030 nm. The new pulsing technology offers the freedom to set the pulse length between 30 ns and 700 ns independent of the repetition rate, which can be selected between 5 and 100 kHz. The rectangular or round fiber of this laser homogenizes the output density on the work piece resulting in a large process window. It is also available as a green laser with up to 400 watts of power. The wavelength of 515 nm combined with excellent beam quality enables ablation processes of less than 100 micros wide.

When it comes to a laser marking system for scribing solar cells, TRUMPF's q-switched green solid state laser, the TruMark 3230, is designed for P2 and P3 scribing of a-Si and CdTe based thin film solar cells. Its high pulse-to-pulse stability assures electrical isolation of the laser scribe. Due to its diffraction limited beam quality and excellent stability, a small dead area can be achieved.

Also, the TruMark 3230 comes equipped with a scanner, laser and PC featuring TruTops Mark laser marking software, which provides the highest flexibility and fast set-up time. At the show, this laser will be operational in a TruMark Station 5000 workstation. The TruMicro 3220 is based on the same laser as the TruMark 3230, but is designed as an OEM laser source with a 10 inch rack compatible control unit. The high output power allows the beam to be split into four, which decreases the number of lasers in a scribing machine.

TRUMPF is one of the world's largest producers of fabricating machinery and a world market leader in lasers used for industrial production technology. Additional company information is available at: www.us.trumpf.com
