TRFA Webinar: Principles of How Additives Perform in Epoxy Systems

Glen Ellyn, IL-The Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA) invites industry professionals to participate in an informative, one-hour webinar on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. EDT, to get a fundamental understanding of the principles and science behind the design and selection of additives. Dan Breidenbach, Laboratory Manager, BYK USA, who will present the webinar, will help attendees learn the major reasons and objectives for using air release additives, the differentiation between air release additives and defoamers, principles of wetting and dispersive additives and surface defects and solutions.

TRFA's webinar format allows industry professionals to tap the latest technical knowledge with the added advantages of a time- and cost-efficient vehicle for education & training. In addition, cost for the webinar is based per site, not per person. A number of professionals from one company can participate at the same cost for a single site. Cost is $99 per site (not per person) for TRFA members; $199 per site for non-members. Complete information and registration is available at www.trfa.org/webinars/Additives.aspx.

Specific topics to be included in the webinar are : Air release additives and defoamers to reduce coating porosity and achieve higher density in filled epoxy compounds; Surface additives to enhance substrate wetting and to eliminate fisheyes over substrates that exhibit a low surface tension; Wetting and dispersing additives to deflocculate and stabilize fillers and pigments to achieve homogeneous coatings and compounds with a workable viscosity; and Rheology additives that produce thixotropic, pseudoplastic, and newtonian flow behaviors.

Dan Breidenbach has been with BYK USA, Inc. for 23 years and currently holds the position of Laboratory Manager for Plastic applications. Prior to his employment with BYK USA, Inc. he held positions as a polyurethane formulator and polyurethane technical service representative for the Dow and Upjohn Chemical Companies. Mr. Breidenbach attended the University of New Haven where he majored in Chemistry.
