Prestigious Award Recognizes TREK's Innovative "Infinitron" and its Contribution to Static Control Management & Yield Improvement in the Semiconductor Industry

19 September 2007 (Medina, NY) - TREK, INC., a designer and manufacturer of high-performance electrostatic instrumentation and high-voltage power amplifiers, recently received the prestigious 2007 EuroAsia IC Industry Award. TREK's Infinitron(TM) (an innovative electrostatic voltmeter) won in the category of "Yield Management - Best Process" during special award ceremonies held in San Francisco, California (USA).

"It is an honor for TREK to be chosen for the EuroAsia IC Industry Award," said Bill Maryniak, Director of Business Development for TREK and recipient of the award at the special-event ceremony (see photo attached labeled "Maryniak @ EuroAsia Ceremony.jpg"). "Our success is a testament to TREK's technical expertise, dedicated employees and the mutually beneficial relationships we have established with customers and business partners around the world," added Maryniak.

The Infinitron (TREK Model 800) is a novel ultra-high impedance electrostatic voltmeter instrument that offers a significant advancement in the state-of-the-art for management of static control in electrostatic-sensitive applications, including the manufacturing, handling and assembling of semiconductors, electronics, flat panel displays, hard disk drives and other devices. TREK's Infinitron reflects a "breakthrough" in charge measurement technology and is expected to contribute to both static control management and yield improvement in these and other industries. Other applications that could benefit from the Infinitron include medical/biomedical devices, powder handling (chemical, pharmaceutical, ceramic and other materials), electrostatic painting/coating, test & measurement, instrumentation, quality control, materials evaluation, military, automotive, aerospace and R&D applications.

TREK's Infinitron enables contacting voltage measurements to be made with virtually no transfer of electric charge to/from the measured object, thereby providing true, accurate and non-damaging measurements. Other instruments in the market actually transfer charge upon contact; so not only do they measure inaccurately but they can actually cause damaging ESD (electrostatic discharge) events during measurement.

Some industry experts estimate the cost attributable to ESD damage in the electronics industry alone exceeds billions of dollars annually. The Infinitron is expected to enhance yield management and deliver significant cost savings in this industry, as well as enable technological developments in the field.

The Infinitron meets a market need to effectively measure site-specific voltage on devices sensitive to ESD, during their handling and processing. It enables highly relevant, cost-effective process improvements to be made in pursuit of minimizing device destruction and latent damage, thereby enhancing product integrity and improving production yields in semiconductor, electronics and other ESD-sensitive applications and industries.

As the trend toward device miniaturization continues, the ability to do real-time, non-disruptive, non-loading, site-specific voltage measurements becomes critically important for ESD prevention and control.

The EuroAsia IC Industry Awards, sponsored in part by EuroAsia Semiconductor Magazine, celebrate innovation and best practice in an industry where technical achievement is expected and every decision and idea is a potential breakthrough. IC (integrated circuit) manufacturing relies on a wide range of companies and services to achieve the remarkable technical achievements that drive the semiconductor industry forward. That said, the awards focus on the people, processes and products that contribute to that advancement. After nomination forms are submitted by companies, institutes and individuals, the award committee evaluates the submissions and creates a short list of candidates in each award category. The final EuroAsia award recipients are decided by online voting, with votes cast by nominee peers in the industry. This makes the EuroAsia IC Industry Awards unique and that much more meaningful.
