TITANIUM 2011 Gathers Momentum



DENVER, -- TITANIUM 2011, the international conference and exhibition, will be held Oct. 2-5 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in California USA. The event is expected to attract more than 800 attendees from 30 countries, including China, Russia and Japan, TITANIUM 2011--marking its 27th year--is an annual business forum designed to support the needs of titanium industry professionals, suppliers and customers.

As the global titanium industry continues to gather momentum for a recovery--spurred by strong demand from the commercial aerospace sector--the conference provides a platform for influential business leaders to share their insights on key developments and trends likely to shape market conditions.

David Houle, a futurist and business advisor, will be keynote speaker for the event. Houle will offer thoughts on "The Shift Age" and "Transformation Decade." He has worked at major TV networks for more than 20 years and was part of the senior executive team that created and launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News. He won the prestigious George Foster Peabody and Heartland awards for "Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream" and was nominated for an Academy Award. He publishes the futurist blog, www.evolutionshift.com, with the tag line "A Future Look At Today."

John Byrne, vice president of aircraft, materials and structures for Boeing Commercial Airplane will be the "distinguished guest speaker" for the conference. Byrne is responsible for strategic development, contracting and supplier management of the metallic and composite raw materials, fabricated parts and assemblies, forgings and castings and structural standards.

The World Industry Demand Trends speaker panel, as usual, will be a highlight session for the gathering. Distinguished panel members, representing global business viewpoints from North America, Europe and Asia, include Michael G. Metz, president, VSMPO Tirus US; Richard Harshman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny Technologies Inc.; Dawne Hickton, vice chairman, chief executive officer and president of RTI International Metals Inc.; James Buch, executive vice president, commercial, Titanium Metals Corp. In addition to her role as a member of the World Industry Demand Trends panel, Hickton will moderate a presentation on "The Evolution of Supply-Chain Security for Critical Materials to Support the Defense Industrial Base." This panel will examine the evolution of supply-chain security for strategic and critical materials, including titanium, as they support the defense industrial base. Speakers will address the need for the U.S. government and industry to consider proactive supply-chain security measures that will foster competitiveness in the 21st century.
