TEKLYNX and Data Support Announce Evidence Tracking Software Built on BACKTRACK

Custom application helps ensure law enforcement chain-of-custody for evidence...

MILWAUKEE and NANUET, N.Y. - June 10, 2008 - TEKLYNX® International, the world's leading developer of software products for the AIDC marketplace, and Data Support Inc. today jointly announced Evidence Hound, an evidence tracking software solution. Built on TEKLYNX BACKTRACK® Asset and Inventory Tracking Software, the application is custom-designed to document law enforcement evidence chain-of-custody.

"Evidence Hound leverages BACKTRACK's outstanding asset tracking capabilities and focuses them specifically on logging, storing and controlling the movement of evidence," explained Tom McDonald, Data Support president. "We researched evidence handling best practices and built the fields and interface to be easy and intuitive for law enforcement officers, while always keeping chain-of-custody in mind."

Simplified entry - Secure tracking

Evidence Hound presents an easy-to-use on-screen form to enter evidence information into the database. The evidence can be grouped into a case or multiple cases to associate the item with other evidence or even other investigations. Several fields offer drop-down menus so the user can simply select the desired entry rather than type in the information - this speeds the process and improves accuracy. The record can also include a photo of the item and can be further customized to meet specific customer requests.

Each item is assigned a unique bar code and is labeled, making the evidence easy to locate on the shelf. When investigators, law enforcement or court personnel access evidence, the attendant scans his/her own authorized bar code and a bar code corresponding to the officer who is receiving the evidence, and enters the destination and other relevant information. The Evidence Hound/BACKTRACK system automatically adds the date, time and other standard fields and prints a receipt. Evidence returns are handled in the same way.

Flexible labeling and reporting

BACKTRACK includes a label designer so users can design and print their own barcode and human-readable tags. Evidence Hound also offers major advances in reporting with many pre-formatted reports and the flexibility to quickly and easily design additional reports. It eliminates manual report writing and reduces errors since tracking reports are printed instantly directly from the system.

"Evidence Hound is one of the best vertical BACKTRACK applications that we've seen," said David Pettiford, TEKLYNX global product marketing manager. "It presents BACTRACK's capabilities in a form that is intuitive to law enforcement users while controlling and documenting evidence custody from check-in to disposal."

Evidence Hound is available immediately directly from Data Support. It includes BACKTRACK Asset and Inventory Tracking Software, which also provides the label design/print engine, multi-level password security and backup capabilities.
