TE Circuit Protection's MHP Device Named Product of the Year by Electronic Products Magazine

MENLO PARK, Calif. - TE Circuit Protection, a business unit of TE Connectivity, today announced it was honored with an Electronic Products' 2011 Product of the Year Award for its MHP30-36 product. The MHP (metal hybrid PPTC) device is an overcurrent protection device that combines a bimetal protector in parallel with a polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) element.

The editors of Electronic Products-a leading trade publication for electronic design engineers-evaluated thousands of products launched in 2011. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance. The MHP30-36 device demonstrated success in the circuit protection category by enabling a new hybrid circuit protection approach for Li-ion battery technology in portable and motive applications.

"The MHP device incorporates the best features of a bimetal breaker and PPTC and allows the PPTC technology to be used in higher current applications," said Paul O'Shea, editor of Electronic Products. "The resettable MHP30-36 device provides excellent arc suppression characteristics compared to standard breaker devices that must limit the number of switching cycles since arcing between contacts may damage them. This approach is useful in dc-rated designs that require arc-suppressed, latched, high-current protection."

The 2011 Product of the Year Awards were announced in the January 2012 issue of Electronic Products with a cover feature and a brief description of each product. Additionally, the winning products appear on Electronic Products' website.

2011 marks Electronic Products' 36th annual Product of the Year Awards, which recognize the best products in the industry.
