System Technology With A Focus On SMT Production

ERNI`s System Technology Division at Productronica

ADELBERG, GERMANY - November 13, 2007 - ERNI Electronics is devoting much of its coverage at this year's Productronica 2007 (hall B6, booth 161) to its range of products and services in the System Technology Division. System Technology now accounts for nearly 30% of total sales within ERNI Electronics and focuses on the development of backplanes, electronic assemblies and sub-systems.

The company currently sees a clear trend towards production in cost-effective SMT technology. Based on an appropriately aligned connector range ERNI expanded its expertise in the area of SMT production and assembly with the integration of a company that specialises in soldering technology. By incorporating this know-how and services in soldering technology, ERNI is able to offer a broad spectrum of active boards and sub-systems completely from one source. The corresponding pick-and-place equipment, SMD reflow and wave soldering systems and the complex testing technology are available for this along with the extensive range of connectors.

There are also modern soldering systems for processing through-hole components (THT), where processes using lead can be carried out in addition to lead-free soldering. At the same time, the SMT soldering capacities were expanded further. Active PCBs can be effectively produced in small and large series with powerful pick-and-place robots. Also the feeding of larger high-density components such as the 80-pin SMC connectors is not a problem thanks to special "feeders." The functionality and high quality is ensured through the use of powerful in-circuit testers and other individual testers. The extensive expertise in the well established area of pressfit technology can be applied particularly to meet the high quality and reliability requirements of the automotive industry.

The service range of ERNI in the System Technology Division covers the entire spectrum of the design of backplanes and sub-systems. This includes: concept, connector design, printed circuit board layout, simulation, prototyping, mechanical design, power supply, cooling etc. Using its core competence in connectors, ERNI is investing further in the System Technology Division with a focus on the production of backplanes and sub-systems. ERNI has emphasised the importance of this segment for the company's future success by investing around 2.7 million in a new production and administration building in Adelberg (Ziegelhau) covering an area of approximately 3000 m2.
