Sysmex America Establishes Sysmex Canada, Inc.


Carl Rocha to serve as Sysmex Canada's first general manager

MUNDELEIN, Ill., Nov. 1 / -- Sysmex America, Inc. (SAI), the United States subsidiary of Sysmex Corporation, Kobe, Japan, today announced the establishment of a new subsidiary, Sysmex Canada, Inc. Sysmex Canada will transition its business from its current Canadian distributor and begin operations in Toronto in January 2008. Sysmex Canada is federally registered as a Canadian company and is in receipt of its Certificate of Incorporation as outlined by the Canada Business Corporations Act. Carl Rocha, an experienced veteran marketer in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) market, has been named as the company's general manager effective immediately, said Kazuya Obe, Sysmex America's CEO. Rocha will lead the company's integrated team of sales, marketing, applications specialists and service professionals and will oversee all aspects of the Canadian operations.

"Sysmex America's move to establish a Canadian sales and support center aligns with the company's strategic initiative to serve our customers through a single point of contact. Carl's in-depth knowledge of the Canadian healthcare market and his successful track record there will be important assets to the company and to our customers as Sysmex moves forward in this region," said Obe.

Prior to joining Sysmex, Rocha was the general manager of Randox Laboratories Canada where he was primarily responsible for the company's sales in diagnostic reagents and controls, QC programs and instrumentation for chemistry and immunochemistry analysis. Rocha has served in several senior level positions with Canadian-based healthcare organizations including Source Medical, a medical equipment and surgical supplies distributor, where he was Vice President of Marketing and with VWR International, a laboratory supplies, equipment and chemicals distributor, where he served as Vice President of Operations. Rocha also directed Canadian-based manufacturer/distributor Baxter Corporation's customer operations as the company's Director of Customer Operations. Other areas of responsibility during his 13-year tenure with Baxter included accounting, purchasing, sales and operations.

Rocha received his educational training in Business Administration from Harrow College, University of Westminster, London, England and at the Institute of Cost Management Accounting, London, England.
