Foundry Solutions Deployed as the Foundation for Secure, High-Speed Campus Network

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (NASDAQ:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching, routing, and Web traffic management solutions, today announced that Syntel, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYNT), a global information technology services company, selected Foundry's high-performance switching and routing solutions to power it's new Global Development Center (GDC) in Pune, India. Syntel's vertical practices support the entire Design-Build-Operate-Optimize lifecycle of systems and processes for corporations in the financial services, insurance, retail, health care and transportation industries.

Foundry Networks was selected for Syntel's network infrastructure because of its proven track record at Syntel's GDC in Chennai, India and for the company's ability to deliver low-latency, reliable, and scalable solutions. Foundry's award-winning BigIron RX family of high-performance routing switches will power Syntel's network core at the new campus, which accommodates more than 7,000 engineers. The BigIron RX family features redundant switch fabrics, system management, and power supply components to ensure maximum reliability. It is the industry's first 100-Gigabit Ethernet (100-GE) ready switch fabric with the highest wire-speed 10-GE and GE port densities available today. The FastIron(R) SuperX Series switches equipped with 10-GE uplinks will provide high-capacity aggregation for Syntel, while the FastIron Edge X Series switches equipped with power-over-Ethernet (POE) will enable full Layer 2/3 intelligence at the network's edge. Foundry's FastIron WLAN POE switches and IronPoint(TM) access points will be deployed throughout Syntel's campus to supply users with secure, high-speed, and easy-to-manage wireless LAN services. Foundry's ASIC based sFlow implementation will provide Syntel with advanced network monitoring, auditing, and intrusion detection capabilities. The network has been designed end-to-end with highly available, resilient, and redundant features to ensure business continuity.

"Network reliability and scalability are critical not only to Syntel, but to our Fortune 500 clients who we serve through our global development centers," said Sajid Ahmed, global head of infrastructure for Syntel. "When we began looking at network switch solutions for our new 40-acre state-of-the-art campus in Pune, India, Foundry Networks exceeded our expectations. They have the industry's most advanced layer 2 and 3 networking equipment, both in terms of architecture and performance. We were also impressed with the ability to provide an open-ended and scalable solution. Foundry not only met our features requirements, but also prevailed in reducing our total cost of ownership and future-proofing Syntel's network investment."

The FastIron Edge X Series switch with POE (FESX-POE) establishes the benchmark in edge connectivity by delivering the most adaptable feature set combined with the highest amount of power available for POE device support. A total of 480 watts dedicated to POE set a new benchmark for the industry by delivering up to 15.4 watts for each 10/100/1000 Mbps port using a single power supply in a fixed configuration; the option for a second internal redundant power supply delivering 100 percent system and POE redundancy is available. To meet existing and emerging network requirements, the FESX-POE systems delivers a complete set of standards-based, feature-rich Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 multiprotocol routing capabilities, comprehensive hardware and software redundancy, complete quality-of-service (QoS) controls, and integrated copper Gigabit Ethernet ports. The extensive feature set supports network requirements ranging from basic connectivity to multicast-enabled full streaming audio and video applications for converged services, including Voice over IP (VoIP).

Sajid added, "In order to configure other vendors' POE switches with redundant power, we had to retrofit an external power supply which is not only inefficient, but also costly. Since Foundry built POE and redundant power capabilities into the FastIron Edge X Series switches and made it hot swappable, we received more switching power and performance for our money than with any other option on the market."

D-Link India will provide the local technical expertise, installation and integration services to help design and install the Foundry Network at Syntel campus.

"D-Link India is proud to partner with Foundry Networks and work with Syntel to deploy their state-of-the-art LAN Infrastructure," said K. R. Naik, Chairman and Managing Director, D-Link India Limited, Foundry's Principal Partner in India. "We aim to leverage our networking and communications expertise to provide Syntel the best network infrastructure integration experience possible."

"Foundry is breaking new ground by integrating the first 100 Gigabit-ready switch in India," said Chandra Kopparapu, vice president of sales for Asia Pacific, at Foundry Networks. "We look forward to working with Syntel as they continue to grow and diversify their business."
