Scheduled for January 30, 2013, Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters symposium, will focus on newly released critical continuous soil gas monitoring parameters associated with industrial activity around the world. Papers are invited on topics such as barometric effects, soil moisture effects, and temperature effects, as well as dry cleaners, gas stations, fracking, landfills, brownfields, litigation issues, and regulatory issues.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - Papers are invited for a symposium on Continuous Soil Gas Measurements: Worst Case Risk Parameters, to be held Jan. 30, 2013. The symposium will be held at the Hyatt in Jacksonville, Fla., in conjunction with the January standards development meetings of ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock. The symposium will focus on newly released critical continuous soil gas monitoring parameters associated with industrial activity around the world. From oil and gas companies, chemical companies through small industrial sites, there is a growing need to understand and mitigate worst case/ explosive or high human health risk conditions. Dry cleaners, gas stations, refineries, fracking sites, landfills, landfill energy systems, machine shops, etc., all can exhibit vapor intrusion risk. Often driven by litigation, the interest in Vapor Intrusion (VI) into homes and buildings has skyrocked. Recent dynamic risk observations pose serious implications about conventional approaches, best management practices, due diligence and formerly closed sites, and create a need to identify and understand site-specific conditions that warrant continuous monitoring. Papers are invited on the following topics: o Continuous measurements,

o Dry cleaners,
o Gasoline stations,
o Oil and gas facilities,
o Fracking,
o Landfills,
o Brownfields,
o Litigation issues, and
o Regulatory issues. To participate in the symposium, presenters/authors must submit a 250-300 word preliminary abstract at www.astm.org/MEETINGS/COMMIT/d18cfp0113.htm by April 30, 2012. The abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature nor can it have been previously published. The symposium chairman will notify you via postal mail by May 7, 2012, of your paper's acceptability for presentation at the symposium. Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Paper (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than January 30, 2013.
