SAN JOSE, Calif. - Dec. 3, 2007 - Symmetricom, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYMM) today announced that Dr. Stefan Winkler, principal technologist for Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division, is speaking on the panel, "Quality Assurance for Extreme Services" at IPTV World Forum Asia 2007 on Friday, December 7, 2007 in Suntec, Singapore. Dr. Winkler will specifically address the importance of understanding Quality of Experience (QoE) for IP-based video services. Taking place December 5-7, 2007, IPTV World Forum Asia is Asia's leading IPTV event with 2,000 visitors anticipated and 80 exhibitors.

Dr. Winkler's panel is part of Session Two, "Extreme Services," on Day Three of the conference. IPTV covers a diverse range of network types, business models and service offerings, driven by the local conditions in each market. In the session, panelists will illustrate how telcos can design services to suit everyone, from multi-room HDTV over VDSL to video services optimized for lower bit rate broadband that can reach into the heartlands of rural Asia. In addition to QoE, Dr. Winkler will also discuss the impacts of quality assurance on customer acquisition and retention efforts for IPTV service providers.
One of the world's top experts in digital media quality, Dr. Winkler serves as a principal technologist at Symmetricom. He was formerly chief scientist and co-founder of Genista Corporation, a provider of quality assurance solutions for IPTV and mobile media. He has also held assistant professor positions at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, and has worked for Hewlett-Packard, Siemens, German Aerospace and Andersen Consulting. Dr. Winkler has published more than 40 papers on perceptual quality measurement and is the author of the book, "Digital Video Quality." He has also been a member and contributor of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG) since its founding in 1997. Dr. Winkler holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Technology in Vienna, Austria and a doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.
