Energy efficient whisper-quiet platforms optimized for Small Office and Home Computing

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 7 -- Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI), a leader in application-optimized, high performance server and workstation solutions, today announced the introduction of its high-end 5046A-XB desktop system and its highly affordable 5035L-iB server/storage solution that is truly optimized for small office and home (SOHO) applications including media, entertainment and gaming. Both of these single-socket systems feature whisper-quiet operation and deliver the superior energy efficiency that SOHO customers demand.

"These single-socket platforms combine industry-leading quality and energy efficiency to deliver the best possible value to our customers," said Charles Liang, CEO and president of Supermicro. "Our performance-optimized 5046A-XB system supports dual high-performance graphics cards via two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots to deliver superior performance for the most demanding image processing and visual applications. The SuperServer 5035L-iB is a truly optimized SOHO server and storage solution that brings enterprise-level quality and features to SOHO customers at a highly affordable price point."

The SuperServer 5035L-iB is based on Supermicro's new X7SLM-L single-processor serverboard with a long embedded chipset lifecycle. This cost-effective platform delivers data security, reliability and performance with RAID support for up to four SATA (3.0 Gb/s) drives for up to 6TB of storage. The X7SLM-L supports both an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and a PCI-Express x16 graphics connector. This micro-ATX (9.6" x 8.6") serverboard also features a PCI-Express x4 (in a x8 slot) and two legacy PCI slots, an IDE connector, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and eight USB 2.0 connectors.

The high-efficiency 300-watt power supply in this SOHO server/storage solution is 80-Plus(R) Bronze level certified, meaning it achieves 85%+ power efficiency. This earth-friendly, energy-efficient system saves electricity and reduces end-users total cost of ownership (TCO) by hundreds of dollars. The SuperServer 5035L-iB's new mini-tower chassis (SC731i-300B) also includes a host of user-friendly design features for easy installation such as a toolless side panel and drive bays, 90-degree pivoting hard disk drive cage, and stamped motherboard support (no standoffs required). Besides four 3.5" internal drive bays, the system also supports two external 5.25" bays, four I/O expansion slots, a toolless rear 9 cm pulse-width modulated fan for optimized cooling and Kensington lock security to safeguard the system. Its small footprint makes it perfect for office or home installations.

Powered by Supermicro's C7X58 high-end desktop motherboard, the 5046A-XB supports both nVidia(R) SLI(TM) and ATI(R) CrossfireX(TM) technology to deliver exceptional performance with support for dual graphics cards. The system is optimized for the Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 processor, which features an Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) that supports three channels of DDR3 memory up to 1600 MHz, along with the new QuickPath Interconnect (QPI) for data transfers up to 6.4 GT/s. Other key features include support for up to 24 GB DDR3 memory, two PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, high-definition 7.1 audio with S/PDIF outputs, and two IEEE 1394a headers.
