Sulzer Metco Exhibits at the Inaugural Thermal Spray Seminar Explicitly for the Oil and Gas Industry

Sulzer Metco will exhibit and give two technical presentations on March 20, 2014, at the first annual Industrial Thermal Spraying for Oil Gas Seminar being held in Alberta, Canada. R&D Manager, Dr. Petr Fiala, and Equipment Product Line Manager, Mr. Jochen Tewes, will offer their expertise and insights regarding the use of thermal spray materials, equipment, and technologies that support key applications in the oil, gas and oil sands industries. The presentations by Dr. Fiala and Mr. Tewes are entitled: “Thermal Spray Materials for Oil and Gas Industry” and “HVOF Spraying for the Oil and Gas Industry,” respectively.

The exposition will highlight unique wear and corrosion surface solutions invaluable to oil and gas users in exploration, extraction and other related field activities. Sulzer Metco will showcase their comprehensive surface solutions, and highlight their broad materials portfolio by featuring carbides coating specimens as well as the WokaStar™-610 liquid-fuel HVOF spray gun.

Other Sulzer Metco members will be at the seminar exclusively to provide customer support and answer visitors’ inquiries regarding unique industry challenges they experience. They will also have access to information on how to reduce operating costs and achieve higher field equipment performance. Attendees will be able to learn about advanced thermal spray applications designed to resist abrasion, erosion, impact, sliding wear, corrosion, and other problematic and complex combination mechanisms.

The Industrial Thermal Spraying for Oil & Gas Seminar is made possible by the collaboration between Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures, and the Advanced Surface Technologies and Coatings Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. The conference is expected to be a dynamic forum for researchers, manufacturers, oil and gas producers, technicians, and students to gain knowledge on thermal spray, particularly for the oil sands sector.

The goals for the one-day program are to introduce the most current technical innovations in thermal spray processes, educate attendees of industry advances, and share current trends in the thermal spray industry that are applicable to the oil sands sector. For those who are not able to attend the conference, but seek education on coating solutions for oil production platforms and refineries, the following link will connect them to pertinent Sulzer Metco resources, www.sulzer.com/Website/Industries/Metco%20Landing%20Pages/Oil%20Gas.
