Strategic Issues from Industry Costs to Roadmapping a Focus of Free Sessions at IPC APEX EXPO(TM)
BANNOCKBURN, Ill., USA, February 24, 2009 - Eight free forum sessions will provide expert insights into strategic issues facing industry companies during IPC APEX EXPO. Free Forums will take place each day from March 31 through April 2, 2009, at Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center, Las Vegas. Admission to all sessions is included with free pre-registration for exhibit hall admission. The eight sessions include:
Tuesday
IPC Technology Roadmap, 1:30 pm-3:00 pm
The IPC International Technology Roadmap for 2008-2009 will be released at the show. This session will highlight the future technologies that will drive the electronic interconnect industry.
iNEMI Technology Roadmap, 3:15 pm-4:45 pm
This forum continues the interchange of roadmapping information with highlights of the 2009 iNEMI Roadmap (available to industry in March 2009) and a detailed discussion of several key technologies.
IPC Government Relations Forum, 3:00 pm-4:00 pm
Attendees will receive updates on key lobbying issues including the proposed revisions to the RoHS directive, and will discuss legislative and regulatory concerns with members of the IPC Government Relations Committee.
Wednesday
Test and Inspection Summit, 1:30 pm-3:30 pm
A panel of senior level executives will discuss the latest test challenges and the technologies that are emerging to deal with them, including in-circuit electrical test, optical inspection, X-ray inspection, functional electrical test, and JTAG/boundary-scan test.
Counterfeit Electronics, 10:15 am-11:45 am
This interactive forum will provoke discussion on actions being taken, and contemplated, to fight counterfeiting within the electronics manufacturing community. The emphasis will be on action-oriented "eco-system" approaches to addressing the problem, rather than fighting the counterfeiters along traditional paths (e.g. PCB board materials, components, etc) which results in fragmented strategies.
Environmental Laws and Regulations 2009: A Supply Chain Perspective, 8:30-10:00 am
A panel of experts on environmental compliance issues from industry companies Jabil Circuits, TTM Technologies and Sun Microsystems will discuss the current state of worldwide regulations and how companies can prepare for the next wave of legislation.
Thursday
iNEMI Pb-free and BFR-free Forum, 8:30 am-10:00 am
This session will present the latest status on iNEMI's efforts to eliminate "materials of concern." Projects include: Pb-Free Alloy Alternatives, BFR-Free PCB, and Pb-Free Wave Soldering.
Industry Cost Challenges: EMS Solutions, 10:15 am-11:45 am
A panel comprising EMS company representatives and a bill of materials expert will present case histories and lessons learned to attack problems in production, supply chain management, board failure, and time to market. This is a vital discussion for both OEMs and EMS providers interested in cutting nonvalue-added costs from the production cycle.

In addition to the free sessions, 34 technical posters will be presented by industry experts and academic researchers during the event. Poster authors will be available on Wednesday 3:30-4:30 pm to discuss their findings. Pre-registered attendees may view the posters and attend the poster presentations for free.
