Press release date: October 22, 2007

The Special-Lite SL-17 FRP Flush Door has successfully completed 5 million cycles under the Window & Door Manufacturers Association's NWWDA T.M. 7-90 cycle-slam test.

A severe performance test, NWWDA T.M. 7-90 is used to determine the physical endurance of a door and associated hardware connections under accelerated operating conditions. Under this protocol, every four seconds the door starts at a fully closed position, is completely opened and then slammed to a closed position again.

Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) performed the cycle-slam testing between 2005 and 2007. Every 500,000 cycles, ATI conducted thorough visual inspections-checking hinge seams for signs of sag or separation from the door frame. After a total of 5 million cycles, there was no hinge separation or operational damage to the Special-Lite SL-17 FRP Flush Door.

This test was performed in addition to an earlier 25 million cycle test conducted by ATI in accordance with ANSI A250.4, where a Special-Lite SL-17 FRP Flush Door was opened and closed at a normal rate of speed.
