DAVE Lizard CPU Module with Spansion NOR Flash Memory and TI ARM® microprocessors Brings High-Performance and Interactivity to Home Automation and Industrial Controls

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - Spansion Inc. (NYSE: CODE), a leading provider of NOR Flash memory, today announced a collaboration with Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) and Dave, a system design company in Italy, to bring high performance and interactivity to home automation and industrial controls. Dave is building complete CPU modules, such as the Lizard board, with 1Gb Spansion GL NOR Flash memory and TI AM3517 or AM3505 Sitara(TM) ARM® microprocessors, to provide rich 2D and 3D graphic interfaces with real-time feedback to deliver the fastest interactive user experience.

Home automation systems are growing in popularity as a tool to connect both electronic devices within a home, as well as to the developing smart energy grid. Sophisticated software required to manage and monitor home electronics is driving the need for high-performance processing and memory. With these systems bringing consumers more convenience, security and energy cost savings, home automation systems are expected to exceed $11.8 billion in shipments in 2015 according to ABI Research studies.

The Spansion GL NOR Flash family is ideally suited to these industrial applications with industry-leading read performance to speed system boot and increase application interactivity while providing high reliability, extended operating temperature range, longevity of product supply and a universal package footprint to enable simple upgrades for varying density requirements.

Executive Quotes:

"The growth of demand for advanced applications, such as home automation, is driving the need for easy-to-use ARM microprocessors and memory," said Dipiti Vachani, general manager, Sitara ARM microprocessors, TI. "Our work with Spansion eases the memory design process for our customers, allowing them to quickly get to market with a highly reliable solution that is tested to withstand the rigors of high-performance applications."

"Our Lizard CPU module frees our customers to innovate more quickly by focusing on differentiating their application rather than system design," said Stefano Dal Poz, CEO of DAVE S.r.l. "The selection of Spansion GL Flash memory provides our customers the most reliable and highest performing memory subsystem for the fastest data access enabling highly interactive applications."

"As home automation and industrial controls connect to the smart energy grid, high-performance NOR Flash memory will be required to efficiently manage their interactivity," said Avo Kanadjian, vice president, marketing at Spansion. "By collaborating with Texas Instruments, we are helping customers like Dave to design systems that deliver an immersive user experience."
