Sonoco Elects Sanders Executive Vice President of All Industrial Businesses

Hartsville, S.C. - Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest diversified global packaging companies, today announced that M. Jack Sanders has been elected executive vice president, Industrial, according to Harris E.DeLoach Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer.
In this new position, Sanders, 55, has global operating responsibility for all of the Company's businesses which serve industrial markets, including Sonoco's tubes and cores, paper, wire and cable reels, protective packaging, paperboard specialties and recycling. He reports to DeLoach and continues to serve on the Company's executive committee.
"During his 20-year career with Sonoco, Jack has played an integral role in growing our industrial products businesses," said DeLoach. "Aligning our industrial converting and paper operations under Jack's leadership allows us to further improve the manufacturing performance of our vertically integrated industrial businesses, while continuing to develop global growth opportunities."
Sanders, a 1976 graduate of Louisiana State University with a BS degree in finance, joined Sonoco in 1987 as national sales and marketing manager, Wire and Cable Reels. In 1991, he was named general manager for Sonoco's Protective Packaging division and was promoted to division vice president and general manager of Protective Packaging in 1998. Sanders was elected a corporate officer and named vice president, Industrial Products, North America in 2001. He was subsequently named vice president, Global Industrial Products in January 2006 and senior vice president in October 2006, before adding additional responsibility for all industrial converting businesses in July 2007.
