Press release date: May 11, 2007

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - The Value Engineering Alliance, a leading provider of machine vision solutions, announces the availability of a Texas Instruments TMS320DM64X Digital Signal Processor-compatible industrial OCR library that can be used to turn Vision Components VC4XXX series smart cameras into stand-alone readers or OCR-enabled vision appliances.

Originally developed to serve as the OCR component in multifunctional wafer identification systems capable of reading BC412 bar codes and ECC200 Data Matrices in addition to alphanumeric IDs comprised of SEMI-OCR, IBM or CANON font characters, the software has been rigorously tested and its robustness proven under the challenging conditions often encountered at various stages of semiconductor manufacturing processes. Enabling it to recognize OCR-A and OCR-B font characters then significantly increased its appeal and potential to be used in other arenas.

Typical applications include the automatic reading of information that has been machine-marked (laserscribed, laserprinted, dotpeened/pinstamped, inkjet printed, etc.) on wafers, read/write heads, printed circuit boards, substrates, glass lenses/molds/containers, electronic components and carriers, medical/dental devices and instruments, automotive or aerospace components, direct mail pieces and packaged goods, consistent with identifying, matching, sorting, tracking, or verifying these products as they move through various manufacturing or laboratory processes.
