Smiths Detection Product Inspection Division for Food X-Ray Inspection is Acquired by Mettler-Toledo

Eagle customers to benefit from increased focus on food x-ray inspection technologies and service.

31st March 2011, Greifensee, Switzerland: Mettler-Toledo has announced that it has acquired the Smiths Detection Product Inspection division and will adopt the well-known Eagle brand of food x-ray inspection systems. Well-known for its expert inspection products since 1998, the Eagle business will continue to operate as a separate entity using existing sales and service channels. With this strategic business expansion, Eagle customers will benefit from a strengthening of service and support through a larger network of service technicians and application support. Additionally, Eagle is now part of Mettler-Toledo's Product Inspection division, which is focused on helping food manufacturers meet their inspection requirements. With this acquisition, Mettler-Toledo is increasing its commitment to the food x-ray business, which will drive additional strategic investments in technology and application development.

"This acquisition is a positive step forward for our global customers and our experienced team as we can bolster customer service while expanding our field support, application capability and market coverage. Now part of Mettler-Toledo, Eagle will be even more effective at helping manufacturers enhance quality, safety and productivity on their lines," said Terry Woolford, General Manager, Eagle.

"The Eagle brand has a renowned pedigree and reputation within the marketplace. Now with Eagle as part of our portfolio, we can provide an even wider range of world-class product inspection solutions, such as fat analysis tools, to product manufacturers around the world for a variety of applications," said Kristian Laskey, Head of X-Ray Business, Mettler-Toledo. "With a focus on innovation, value and quality, Eagle is extraordinarily well positioned to help food, consumer goods, and meat and poultry businesses protect their brands."

Eagle's x-ray inspection systems detect contaminants such as metal, glass, stone and bone while also having the ability to check mass, evaluate compartmentalised fill level, and analyse fat content. Other brands in Mettler-Toledo's portfolio include Hi-Speed, Garvens, Safeline and CI-Vision for comprehensive product inspection.
