Site Characterization Related to Hydraulic Fracturing is Focus of ASTM International Workshop
W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., — A workshop on Site Characterization and Monitoring Related to Hydraulic Fracturing Activities will be held Jan. 28, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Houston in Houston, Texas. Sponsored by ASTM Subcommittee D18.26 on Hydraulic Fracturing and Committee D18 on Soil and Rock, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the January standards development meetings of the committee.
The workshop will focus on technologies and best practices for conducting site characterizations and monitoring the impacts of site activities. Case studies related to the following topics will be discussed:
Sampling and analysis of residential and commercial water supply wells;
Stray gas investigations;
Assessing baseline supply well yield and diminished yield investigations;
Measuring atmospheric parameters effecting air quality;
Surface and subsurface soil sampling;
Noise and vibration measurements;
Geologic Investigations for aquifer characterization and migration risks; and
Monitoring of impoundments for leakage.
