OLDBURY, WEST MIDLANDS, UK, March 6, 2008: Simon Hubbard has been appointed managing director of Teknor Apex UK, a new custom compounding company that will serve customers throughout Europe, it was announced today by parent firm Teknor Apex Company. Teknor Apex UK Ltd. is the first unit of a newly established holding company, Teknor Apex Europe Ltd., which will control all of Teknor Apex's compounding businesses in Europe.
Until now, Hubbard headed the European operation of Chem Polymer, a Teknor Apex company that manufactures engineering thermoplastic (ETP) compounds. In his new role, he is responsible for all of Teknor Apex UK's manufacturing, marketing, and sales activities, including the ETP, thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), and vinyl compounding businesses.
"Simon brings a wealth of experience in plastics technology and the key automotive market, plus an expert understanding of the European ways of doing business," said Bertram M. Lederer, executive vice president of Teknor Apex Company. "He is responsible for our program to provide local access and comprehensive service for customers everywhere in the region and to expand our supply capabilities there."
Simon Hubbard began his industrial career in 1976 with Automotive Products Ltd. and spent the next 25 years in management positions with this and other manufacturers of automotive components, primarily first-tier suppliers. Besides responsibilities in manufacturing, sales, and distribution, this experience included five years as a specialist in the re-engineering of businesses and another five as managing director of the UK division of the Phoenix Group. In 2001, he left that company to join compounder AlphaGary Corp. as managing director of its European operation. He came to Teknor Apex in 2006 to head Chem Polymer's European business.
Hubbard has worked in France and Italy as well as the UK and speaks English, French, and German.
He holds a bachelor of engineering degree with honors from Aston University and an executive masters degree in business administration from Warwick Business School. Both institutions are in the UK.
