Press release date: September 12, 2012

Sunnyvale, CA - Sierra Circuits, Inc., the leader in the quick-turn manufacture of high-density interconnect (HDI) printed circuit boards, will demonstrate at the PCB West conference in Santa Clara, CA on September 26 a free software tool for planning HDI PCB stackups.

Sierra Circuits' HDI Stackup Planner enables PCB designers to quickly develop an optimum stackup plan on which to base board layouts that will incorporate tight-pitch, high-pin-count semiconductor devices. Designers simply answer a few menu-driven questions and the tool automatically correlates the electrical properties of PCB materials, PCB manufacturing tolerances, and alternative methods of board construction, to create stackup options designers can evaluate to identify which provides the best balance of performance and cost for each project.

"The HDI Stackup Planner encodes the best practices for HDI manufacturing, so when you give it some basic information about a design it gives a cost-effective, manufacturing-ready stackup in minutes," said Amit Bahl, Marketing Director for Sierra Circuits. "When layout is based on a verified stackup, redesigns are avoided, saving time and expense."

The tool automatically calculates trace widths and spacing on the signal layers within each stackup, for differential pairs and single-ended transmission lines per designer-specified impedance targets, with respect to layer dielectric properties. It produces manufacturing-ready stack-up plans with impedance control for signal integrity.

Why HDI? Conventional architectures for PCB trace routing become impractical when circuits involve semiconductor devices with a pin pitch finer than 1 mm. HDI architectures allow trace routes to such devices within the smallest possible board territory with tight control of signal integrity. HDI architectures are distinguished by microvias, and blind and buried vias with multiple laminations. Sierra Circuits' team at Booth 208-210 at PCB West will describe how to best plan a PCB design, with particular attention to HDI construction techniques.

What: Free Hands-on Demos at Booth 208-210
When: Wednesday, September 26, 2012
Where: PCB West, Santa Clara Convention Center

Designers attending PCB West are invited to a reception and presentation about HDI by Sierra Circuits' Director of Marketing, Amit Bahl, where they can enter a raffle to win an Apple iPad 2 on the spot.

What: Reception and Presentation on HDI design
When: Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: The Napa Room at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 5101 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, CA 95054
