Siemens to Supply Photovoltaic Plants to Italy and France

Siemens Energy has received orders for the turnkey construction of 15 photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of 25 megawatts peak (MWp). In Italy, six solar power plants will be erected in the Marche, Lazio, Umbria and Puglia regions for multiple customers. After commissioning in the summer of 2011, the combined rating of 16.7 MWp will provide approximately 6700 households in Italy with ecofriendly power. In addition, Siemens as general contractor will erect nine photovoltaic plants in the overseas departments of France, Martinique and Guadeloupe. Customer is Sun Development, a company specialized in PV plants development and operation. The plants are scheduled to go online in late 2011. The combined capacity of eight MWp will be sufficient to provide up to 3200 households on the islands with clean power.
As the EPC contractor, Siemens is responsible for the turnkey construction, engineering and project management of the photovoltaic plants. The scope of supply includes the full range of Siemens components, such as inverters, medium-voltage equipment as well as monitoring and control systems. For the solar power plants in Martinique and Guadeloupe, Siemens will also provide service and maintenance. "Siemens will assume responsibility for customized planning, engineering, delivery and installation of all the necessary components," said Martin Schulz, Vice President Photovoltaics of the Siemens Renewable Energy Division. "These orders demonstrate that we're the right partner for complete projects and are able to erect the PV plants within a short time."

Photovoltaic plants are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2010, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about EUR28 billion, making Siemens the world's largest supplier of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 270 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of the megacities Hong Kong, London, New York, Tokyo, Delhi and Singapore.
