Market entry for SGT-800 gas turbine

Siemens Energy has been awarded contracts from Thailand for a total of 16 SGT-800 industrial gas turbines for combined cycle cogeneration plants (CCCP) under Thailand´s Small Power Producer (SPP) program. For the end customer Gulf JP, an independent power producer headquartered in Bangkok, Siemens will supply via EPC contractor Toyo Engineering Corporation based in Tokyo, Japan, a total of 14 gas turbines for seven projects. Purchaser of two SGT-800 machines is Yokohama-based Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corporation, which will build a CCPP as EPC for the end user Amata B. Grimm Power 3 Ltd. Long-term service agreements were also signed for the projects.

"These latest orders from Thailand are further evidence of the success of our gas turbines in the Asian marketplace," said Markus Tacke, CEO of the Industrial Power Business Unit of Siemens Energy. "We expect this market to develop even more over the coming years."

The seven two-unit contracts for Gulf JP are for gas turbines to be deployed at various sites. For the four gas-fired cogeneration power projects Saraburi A, Saraburi B, Industrial Cogen and Combined Heat and Power located in Saraburi province, Siemens will supply a total of eight gas turbines. Two SGT-800 turbines will be deployed in Chachoengsao province for the Chachoengsao Cogeneration power project. The other two projects with four SGT-800 are RIL Cogeneration and Pathum Cogeneration, which are located in Rayong province and Pathumthani province respectively. The combined capacity of the plants is approximately 800 MW, with steam to be exported to industrial users.

The Siemens scope of supply for the CCPP at Amata Nakorn industrial estate in Chonburi Province, 100 kilometers southeast of the Thai capital Bangkok, encompasses two SGT-800 gas turbines, complete with chiller coils, electrical and control modules, and a high integrated generator solution (HIGS). In addition, Siemens will also supply an SST-400 steam turbine. Power, steam and chilled water from the plant will be supplied to industrial users within the Amata Nakorn industrial park. The CCCP is scheduled to go into commercial operation in September 2012.

The SGT-800 is designed for maximum reliability, best in-class efficiency, high availability and low lifecycle costs. Thanks to its dry low emissions (DLE) combustion system, NOx emissions are minimized.

The power plant projects are part of the Thai government's Small Power Producer program. The program required the plants to export at least five percent of their thermal energy in the form of steam or hot water to industrial users in the area to improve the plants' overall efficiency. The customer's decision in favor of the Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine was mainly due to its simple, robust industrial design with high full- and part-load efficiency.
