Power plant in Timelkam is one of the world's most efficient and cleanest

After an approximately two-year construction period Siemens handed over the new Timelkam combined cycle power plant in Austria to Energie AG Oberösterreich and the Swiss Groupe E. The district heating power plant with an installed capacity of 408 megawatts (MW) will have an annual generating capacity of 2400 gigawatt-hours and supply 700,000 households with electricity. The plant's maximum district heating capacity will be 100 megawatts. With its advanced turbine technology the 408-megawatt plant will attain an efficiency of approximately 59 percent while at the same time producing low pollutant emissions. That will make it one of the most efficient and cleanest power plants not only in Austria but also worldwide.

The power plant is an SCC5-4000F1S single-shaft unit of the proven Siemens design, in which the main components - SGT5-4000F gas turbine, SST5-5000 steam turbine and generator - are arranged on a single line of shafting. By virtue of their modular design these plants can not only be readily adapted to specific customer and site requirements but also enable high operational flexibility, short startup times and fast load ramps. The Timelkam power plant will thus be able to supply essential peak-load power.

Combined cycle power plants are an important feature of Siemens environmental portfolio, with which the company posted revenue totaling almost EUR19 billion in fiscal 2008. That is equivalent to around a quarter of Siemens total annual revenue.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2008 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR22.6 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR33.4 billion and posted a profit of EUR1.4 billion. On September 30, 2008, the Energy Sector had a work force of approximately 83,500. Further information is available at: www.siemens.com/energy.
