Press release date: March 9, 2007

Sheffield, MA-March 9, 2007-Sheffield Plastics Inc., a Bayer MaterialScience Company, is pleased to announce that it has received a Certificate of Material Excellence for its MAKROLON® LF Low Flammability polycarbonate sheet material from Material ConneXion®, the world's largest resource for information on new and innovative materials.

A panel of jurors from Material ConneXion chose MAKROLON LF as an innovative product in the Polymers category. Along with the award, MAKROLON LF will be included in Material ConneXion's extensive global resource library of materials that is on display at its offices in New York City, Milan, Bangkok and Cologne and can be accessed online by architects, engineers, industrial and interior designers worldwide via the Internet at www.materialconnexion.com.

"For a lot of our clients, the issue of smoke and fire retardancy are of primary importance, and MAKROLON LF's excellent ratings will allow them to specify polycarbonate for applications that were previously restricted," said Andrew Dent, PhD., Vice President, Library & Materials Research. "The fact that it can also be custom colored adds to its attractiveness as an alternative to glass in low flammability applications."

MAKROLON LF is ideal for applications requiring flame-inhibiting polycarbonate-such as transparent interior aircraft components, electronic enclosures, gaskets, spacers, switchgears, electrical devices, thermoformed equipment and other current carrying components. It is UL 94 V-0 listed and meets stringent FAR 25.283 A and B flammability requirements.

"We are incredibly honored to receive such an award for MAKROLON LF, especially from an organization that offers a factual, non-biased opinion on new cutting-edge materials," said Sheffield Plastics VP of Sales & Marketing Kurt Glaser. "MAKROLON LF is just one result of Sheffield's ongoing commitment to product innovation and excellence."

MAKROLON LF® is incredibly easy to form and can be easily die cut, punched and sheared for the most demanding fabrication needs. It features improved ductility and reduced brittleness for superior impact strength, many times that of float glass and acrylic. It is also UV stabilized and offers excellent optics.

MAKROLON LF is produced under the most rigid quality control specifications, meeting ISO certification guidelines for both plants and processes. Standard clear and custom colors are available in gauges ranging from .080" to .250".

Sheffield Plastics, a Bayer MaterialScience Company, is the global leader in high performance plastics. Sheffield continues its leadership in polycarbonate technology with new processes, product innovations and superior optics.
