Press release date: January 14, 2008

Aston, PA, January 2008 - EasyLock(TM) shaft collars, from Amacoil/Uhing, install quickly without special tools for non-slip holding of tools and reels on smooth, case hardened (Rockwell 55 or higher) shafts. Holding force may be adjusted from 90 to 1,124 pounds using the hand operated control on the EasyLock clamping unit. A quick-release feature facilitates frequent changeovers to help reduce downtime and maintain high production rates. Applications include securing tools, reels or other objects on shafts in packaging and converting machinery, stretch-wrap and other roll-fed equipment, and in static procedures such as holding down mounting plates and machine covers.

The more clamping force is increased, the more the cone-shaped EasyLock point is pushed against the object being secured. This makes EasyLock particularly well suited to high speed spooling applications because as clamping control is increased the EasyLock point is pushed into the core of the spool or reel creating a dynamic, non-slip interface between the shaft and the spool core. Starting and braking moments are therefore effectively transmitted from shaft to reel permitting rapid start-up/shut down without rotational play of the spool on the shaft; spool and shaft start and stop together.

Maintenance-free EasyLock shaft collars are available in eight sizes for shafts with metric diameters of 10 to 40 mm. English sizes are available by special order and subject to a minimum order quantity of 50 units. The quick release feature is not available on the 35 and 40 mm sizes which instead use a thumbscrew release control. Pricing for EasyLock collars starts at $173.00 USD. Components are also available separately. Delivery time is about three weeks ARO.
