Severn Trent Services Provides Pressure Filters for Wastewater Reuse at State-of-the-Art Steel Mill in Columbus, Mississippi
Eleven TETRA® DeepBed pressure filters will produce quality wastewater treatment plant effluents for SeverCorr mill, which will produce 1.5 million tons of flat-rolled steel annually
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - April 5, 2006 - SeverCorr, a new, state-of-the-art steel mill under construction in Columbus, Miss., has purchased 11 TETRA® DeepBed pressure filters from Severn Trent Services to treat wastewater at the flat-rolled steel manufacturing plant. The plant is scheduled to open in 2007 and will supply hot-rolled, cold-rolled and coated products to the southern United States steel market, particularly for use in the automotive industry.
The TETRA filters will be used in the hot strip mill, casting, degas and laminar flow operations at the manufacturing plant. Featuring filter rates of up to 15gmp/ft 2, the DeepBed filters retain solids, oils and grease that are byproducts of the flat-rolled steel manufacturing process. By safely and cost-effectively producing quality wastewater treatment plant effluents, the filters will enable the plant to fulfill its ongoing need for industrial process water. TETRA's DeepBed filters efficiently remove contaminants from industrial wastewaters, enabling filter run times two to five times longer than other filters before backwashing is necessary. Total water used for backwash is as little as two percent of the plant's throughput.
