Sensor Technology Presentations are sought for ASTM workshop.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., - Presentations are invited for a workshop on New Sensor Technologies and Issues with Existing Technologies for Fatigue, Fracture and Mechanical Testing, to be held Nov. 16, 2011, at the Marriott Waterside in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by ASTM International Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the workshop will be held in conjunction with the committee's November standards development meetings. The purpose of the workshop is to identify and explore new sensor technologies that can be used with these types of test methods so that they may be included in relevant ASTM standards. In addition we would like to identify problems with exiting sensors that are currently used in existing standards so that these standards can be improved. This workshop is an opportunity to learn about both new and existing issues with sensor technology as applicable to ASTM fatigue, fracture or mechanical testing standards. Presentations on any of the following areas are desired:
o Sensors to measure crack length via contact or non-contact methods;
o Sensor that detect crack initiation and formation;
o Sensors to measure crack opening displacement (COD) or crack tip opening displacement (CTOD);
o Sensors to measure strain or displacement via non-contact methods;
o Sensors for and issues with digital image correlation; and
o Issues with the application of sensors used in existing ASTM fatigue, fracture and mechanical test standards. Interested participants must submit a 300-500 word abstract via e-mail to Dr. David A. Jablonski (jentek@shore.net) by May 23, 2011. Abstract submitters will be notified of their acceptance for presentation by June 6.
