Press release date: January 8, 2013

New printer line honored by Japan Institute of Design for engineering excellence, offering the smallest footprint in its class in an innovative cube design.

Torrance, CA- Seiko Instruments USA Inc. (SII) Thermal Printer Division, http://www.siiprinters.com, a globally recognized leader in thermal printer technology today announced that its Qaliber RP-E Series was honored by Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) with a 2012 Good Design Award in the Thermal Printer Category.

Qaliber RP-E Series POS printers were recognized with a 2012 Good Design Award for the smallest footprint to free up space at the point-of-sale, fastest printing speed for a better user experience, and high reliability for low maintenance costs.

Qaliber printers also offer a choice of standard and front-access control options, providing the flexibility to slide a printer under the counter, simplifying integration. Service life ratings of a minimum of 93 miles of printing and over 2 million cuts, using the anti-jamming, heavy-duty auto-cutter, ensure long-life dependability. Usability is bolstered by a unique, over-sized LED that provides immediate notification of printer status, and printer configuration is made easier with a robust suite of software utilities, drivers, and SDKs.

"It is an honor to have our Qaliber printers recognized with the distinguished 2012 Good Design Award," said Mark Matsuda, marketing manager for Qaliber POS printers. "It is a testament to SII's continued commitment to innovation, excellence in design and manufacturing, and customer satisfaction."

Based in Tokyo, Good Design Award is a comprehensive program for the evaluation and encouragement of design organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). The award system was originally created in 1957, out of the belief that design was essential in breaking out of the cycle of poverty in Japan. Since then, the Good Design Award has been given to outstanding designs for more than 50 years in the pursuit of prosperous lives and industrial development.

JDP receives approximately 3,000 submissions from more than 1,000 companies and designers from inside/outside of Japan every year. These designs are screened by about 60 design experts, who select and recommend those designs worthy of the Good Design Awards.
