Press release date: November 4, 2010

ATLANTA, Nov. 4, 2010 -- Atlanta-based SecureWorks® Inc., a leading global provider of information security services protecting 2,900 clients worldwide, announced today that Counter Threat Unit SM (CTU) security researcher Joe Stewart recently returned from presenting at the DLP-Russia 2010 conference in Moscow. Stewart, Director of Malware Analysis for the CTU research team, was one of two Americans invited to speak at the conference which focused on all aspects of Data Loss Prevention (DLP), including the problems, challenges and solutions to protecting confidential corporate information.

Stewart, a malware expert and frequent commentator on security for The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and London Financial Times, unveiled information on a new banking Trojan called Origami. Stewart discovered that the Trojan is specifically being used by hackers to attack customers of banks in Russia and the Ukraine. During his session, Stewart detailed the functionality of the malware and how financial institutions can protect against it.

Stewart is also presenting his Origami research at the eighth annual Internet Security Operations and Intelligence (ISOI) Security Conference this week in California. ISOI is a forum where information security researchers from around the globe can privately present on their projects and research.

"I was honored that the DLP-Russia Conference invited me to present," said Stewart. "Conferences like these are an excellent opportunity for the CTU research team to further expand its network of international research contacts. These alliances are extremely valuable for all of those in the research community because by banding together we have a much better chance of successfully fighting cybercrime. The CTU research team looks forward to working with the security researchers in Russia and establishing a long and productive relationship."

The DLP-Russia conference was attended by both Russian government representatives and industry executives. Stewart spoke to over 300 attendees included CEOs, CIOs, CISOs and Economic Security Officers. The two-day conference, held in Moscow Oct. 14-15, was the third annual DLP-Russia conference.
