Seco® Tools to Highlight Productivity at Competitive Manufacturing Summit

TROY, Mich. — Manufacturers looking to optimize operations and grow their business will find a packed roster of experts to learn from at the Competitive Manufacturing Summit in Cleveland, Ohio on Oct. 22, where Seco Tools will be on hand to spotlight productivity through advanced technology and innovation.

The one-day manufacturing summit provides attendees an in-depth, street-level view on how to grow their business, offering multiple educational sessions addressing ways to increase their competitive advantage in the new face of manufacturing and today's economically challenging times.

Seco's Ohio Region Sales Manager Matthew Gluntz, who will talk about growing productivity in today's competitive environment, will be one of the educational session speakers at the event. His presentation will discuss factors that contribute to productivity, such as machine tool type, setup and stability, cutting processes, machining parameters, influence of using the right tool and bottlenecks. It will also compare U.S. manufacturing costs to those in China to better understand how today's businesses need to use modern techniques in machining to compete, embracing modern technology and change.

"My goal is to help manufacturers understand the true value of process optimization and assist them in identifying areas of potential improvement within their operations. After all, when U.S. manufacturers can reduce production costs and increase efficiency, less work will be sent overseas," said Gluntz. "At Seco we work closely with our customers to ensure they are following best practices, to show them how in the long run they will save more by getting the most out of the highest quality tools, not by cutting costs at every corner. Faster speeds and longer tool life will allow them to push productivity to higher and higher levels."

Gluntz will discuss minimizing costs and maximizing productivity, going into depth on the different costs involved, fixed versus variable, explaining what they are and with an emphasis on the fact that the cost of tooling is typically three to four percent of the total operating cost. He will show that gains achieved by increasing productivity are ultimately much greater than gains made by the reduction of tooling costs.

Gluntz joined Seco in 1996 as an application engineer for the Ohio region, and has been in his current position since 1998. He has been named to Seco's "President's Club" three times for the cost savings and technical programs he helped organize throughout the Ohio region. He works with his team to produce cost savings for customers by making them more proficient in developing and maintaining machine cycle times. Over the last two years, the Ohio region has led the NAFTA market with more than $14 million in savings for Seco customers.

The Competitive Manufacturing Summit will take place at the Cleveland Convention Center on Oct. 22. A schedule of presentations and more information about the event can be found at www.themfgsummit.com.
