Sandvik Coromant to Offer Titanium Machining Presentation at IMTS Aerospace Day

Fair Lawn, New Jersey, August 6, 2008 - Aerospace Day at IMTS will feature a presentation by Sandvik Coromant that discusses the company's latest principles for machining titanium airframe components. Topics will include best practices, the machinability of various titanium alloys and the use of five-axis machining centers as tools to machine 3D closed pockets.

"Many components that used to be machined with aluminum have been replaced by titanium alloys," said Bruce Carter, Aerospace Projects Manager, Sandvik Coromant. "They not only require better machining solutions but also present new challenges for achieving acceptable productivity."

Jeff Wallace of Mori Seiki will join Mr. Carter in performing a closed pockets demonstration using a five-axis machining center. Mr. Wallace will also present information on advancements and improvements in five-axis capabilities that will aid aerospace manufacturers in overcoming the challenges presented by machining in titanium.

The presentation will take place in room S503a on Wednesday, September 10 at 10:00 am. To learn more about products, applications and services that can help you think, work and earn smart, visit Sandvik Coromant's "Smart Hub" (booth F-2000) at IMTS.
